What is PhotoCamp?

PhotoCamp London Canada is a free “unconference” for those people who are interested in any and all aspects of photography and cinematography.

PhotoCamp is for everyone: newbies, professionals, teachers, everyone is welcome! PhotoCamp is about creating an affordable (free) event with themes surrounding photography and cinematography promoting education and community involvement throughout these mediums.

An unconference is a small conference where the content is provided by the attendees! Each conference will have only a basic structure up until it starts. People are asked to contribute sessions that they want to present or hear about. Those sessions are picked up by someone with experience in that field and they present it. A session is between 5 and 30 minutes and can cover any topic related to photography and cinematography!

The framework is loosely based on the successful BarCamp unconferences. As BarCamps developed and grew in popularity, a set of guiding principles evolved that have now been used for many BarCamps. We’re all for building on experience, so we’ll be encouraging all attendees to make use of the rules (shown below).

Principles of Open Space

  1. Whoever comes is the right people
attendees of a session or class are “right” simply because they cared to attend
  2. Whatever happens is the only thing that could have
pay attention to events of the moment, instead of worrying about what could possibly happen
  3. Whenever it starts is the right time
the lack of any given schedule or structure should emphasize creativity and innovation
  4. When it’s over, it’s over
don’t waste time – move on to something else when the fruitful discussion ends

Law of 2 Feet

If at any time during our time together you find yourself in any situation where you are neither learning nor contributing, use your two feet. Go to some other place where you may learn and contribute.
